Michael Fitzgerald

Treasurer of State

Michael Fitzgerald, Treasurer of State, is a native of Colo, IA, and a current Waukee resident. Mr. Fitzgerald earned his B.S. degree in business administration from the University of Iowa in 1974 and was elected treasurer in 1982.

Treasurer Fitzgerald serves as trustee and custodian of Iowa's three state pension funds. In addition, he invests over two billion dollars of state operating funds. He has returned over $94 million of lost property through the Great Iowa Treasure Hunt.

Treasurer Fitzgerald is the administrator of Iowa’s 529 plans, College Savings Iowa and the Iowa Advisor 529 plan. Currently, Iowa’s 529 assets are over $2 billion dollars.

Financial literacy has always been a priority for Treasurer Fitzgerald. He is proud to present the fourth annual Iowa Women and Money Conference.
